RECREATION ON DANUBE CAULDRONS

At the Cauldrons, the insurgent Danube takes the mountain by storm, making way among the cliffs. Enigmatic and imposing, the river boils in this area, giving birth to unimaginably picturesque landscapes. Forests rising on hills, stately stone walls with human faces, cold caves and a monastery hanging on a strip of land, they all create a unique performance. The boiling Danube energizes you and sets the mood for exploration, but you can also come to the Cauldrons if you want a few days of relaxation.

The Cauldrons area is rich in tourist offers, so accommodation is not something you should worry about: you can choose between numerous board and lodgings and cottages in OrÅŸova, EÅŸelniÅ£a and Dubova. As far as recreation possibilities are concerned, each visitor can find a perfect location for his/her passions. The beauty of the Danube magnetically attracts tourists who are fascinated by the fairytale sceneries and the water activities. Ship, boat and motor boat rides reveal the fascinating wonders of the 'Iron Gates Dam I' National Park. On the cruise, you will be able to admire Decebalus’ statue on the Romanian shore and the 'Tabula Traiana' Monument on the Serbian shore, Mraconia Monastery, Veterani and Ponicova caves and the ruins of Trikule fortress. You can also take advantage of the quietness in Dubova Gulf, go on a hidro-bike ride, canoe or go kayak-canoeing. Board and lodgings have water ski and waterboard equipment for thrill seekers.

Fishermen can either try their luck from the pontoons set up, or from their boat. Gulf Mraconia is the most popular spot to catch chub, trout, crucian carp, zander or bream. Don’t leave your fishing rod at home because there’s no other place to learn better fishing advice than on the shores of the Danube.

In order to enjoy the delightful sceneries in the area we recommend nature hikes, on foot or by bike. Don’t hesitate to walk on the valley of the Mraconia River or through the Springs’ Wood (PÓ‘durea Izvoarelor) from where you have a good view of the mountain and the river. The trails on Ciucarul Mic and Ciucarul Mare massifs offer an unforgettable adventure, full of surprising discoveries. What about a cultural visit in the localities inhabited by the Czechs - Eibenthal, Baia Noua, Baigar – or even in Serbia?
