Situated along a spectacular defile and surrounded by Moldavia’s stately forests, Izvorul Muntelui Lake is a place privileged by nature. The picturesque of the villages dotted about on the hills, the meandering route of Bicazului Gorges and the stone giants of the CeahlÓ‘u create a fascinating landscape, one you don’t want to part with once you’ve seen it.

You can fully enjoy the beauty of the surroundings on the shore of the lake, where there are board and lodgings and camping areas, or even on the lake, if you get a room at the floating hotel. Each morning, the fresh mountain air will fill you with energy luring you to discover the wonderful long mountain crest. Those who want to relax can do it round the water, taking advantage of the coolness and quietness.

Izvorul Muntelui is one of the biggest anthropic lakes in the country, with an average length of 35 kilometers. Because of this, little ship or mini yacht races are longer, but by no means boring. During the ride, you will be able to admire the legendary rocks of the CeahlÓ‘u, the archaic atmosphere of the dwelling places between the tail of the lake and Piatra Teiului – the immense block of rock which watches over the entire area from amidst the waters.

Close to the dam, there is a tourist harbor from where you can rent light pleasure crafts: boats, hydrobikes and motorboats. We recommend you choose the hours of the sunset to go for a walk, for that are the time when the last sunrays color the waves of the lake in splendid golden shades. After this grandiose show, the sun retreats behind the green forests and is soon replaced by a starry sky.

On the shore, fishermen find excellent places to practice their hobby, especially since the lake is populated by a varied range of species: trout, breams, basses, bleaks, huchens, nases, etc. If you like fishermen’s stories and fresh fish dishes, you can enjoy both at the Potoci trout farm.

Izvorul Muntelui Lake is the place where nature has perfectly combined the mountain with the water. This green and quiet oasis offers you the feeling of absolute freedom along with breathtaking sceneries.
