The Jiu Valley is the most appreciated and spectacular area to practice rafting. Moreover, the region facilitates access to Parang, Retezat and Vulcan massifs, unveiling extremely wild sceneries. Springing from the Godeanu and Parang Mountains, the Jiu River has an impressive flow, forming numerous waterfalls along its course at a water speed of 40 km/hr. The rafting route is narrow, delimited by cliffs, rich in curves and crossovers.
Rafting Sectors:
The rafting and kayak sector measures approximately 40 km and the most well known and used routes are the following:
• The normal route, on the inferior course of the Jiu, between Lainici and Bumbesti Jiu; it has a length of 12 kilometers and a 2 to 4 difficulty level and the descent lasts between 1 ½ and 3 hours .
• The sporting route, situated on the superior course of the river, between Livezeni and Lainici; it measures 10 kilometers, with a difficulty level between 3 and 5 and the trip takes one to two hours.
The Jiu is one of the most challenging rivers in Romania offering favorable conditions for rafting from March to October. In the dry summer months the flow decreases considerably, making the practice of this sport impossible. So answer the challenge and be ready for a memorable adventure!
